Speedy is a simple, high performance, line following automaton. It follows a black felt pen line on white paper. It's frame and wheels are K'nex. Powered by two small toy motors, with friction drive. Motors are shorted when off to provide breaks. It has no computer just a flip-flop controlling each motor. It steers using four infrared reflective line detectors. |
It may seem presumptuous to call something this crude a robot, but for a few years it reigned as champion of the line following contest, held by the Seattle Robotics Society. In recent years both the contest and the other competitors have became more sophisticated, and now Speedy wouldn't have a chance. |
